The 2016 Penn Relays

The first official Penn Relays were held at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, 121 years ago, at Franklin Field. Originally, there were only a few colleges participating, but within five years the relays grew tremendously. Now, they have become one of the greatest track meets that every runner aspires to participate in. The most recognized relays are on the collegiate level, but high school athletes also compete in their own series of events in track and field. Next to the Olympics and World Championships, the Penn Relays are the most popular of spectator sports.

This year, Carroll was one of the many high schools to participate! We had girls 4x100 and 4x400 teams, as well as boys 4x100 and 4x400 teams involved. Not only did Carroll participate in the running portion of the relays, but we also sent senior, Carly Peters, to the Javelin competition.

All of our athletes did a tremendous job, especially the girls 4x100 relay team consisting of Kayla Reynolds '19, Divonne Franklin '18, Jada Nembhard '19, and Angela Faison '16 who all qualified for districts as a relay team! Congratulations to all who participated!
