Archbishop Chaput Kicks off Carroll's 50th Anniversary

The Archbishop John Carroll High School Community kicked off the 2017-2018 academic year with a reminder of our faith-based values. On Friday, September 22, Archbishop Charles Chaput, Archbishop of Philadelphia, offered Mass. This marked the beginning of the 50th anniversary celebrations that will continue throughout this year. This visit to campus was the first by His Excellency since his installment as Archbishop in 2012. The school community, led by Mr. Frank Fox and Dr. Anchen Schulz, committed themselves to making the best impression possible. Thanks to the direction of Mr. William Gennaro, the new Assistant Principal of Student Services, students arrived prepared to participate in the liturgy and all events of the day. Archbishop Chaput was the principal celebrant and homilist for Mass, while Fr. Michael Speziale and Fr. Bill Donovan, a Carroll graduate, concelebrated with the Archbishop. "It was a great honor to be able to open the 50th anniversary with the Archbishop celebrating a school-wide Mass," remarked Fr. Speziale about the event. The Carroll choir and band showcased their respective talents for the Archbishop and made the whole school proud. Mass concluded with the presentation of gifts to the Archbishop from both St. Katherine Day School and Archbishop Carroll students. In his gratitude, the Archbishop even granted us a free day off from school! The Carroll community is extremely grateful for His Excellency’s visit, as it was the perfect way to begin the celebration of our beloved school’s 50th anniversary.
